How money works in Shodkk

The short version: it doesn't go through us. Shodkk is a notice board and a ledger — never a middleman holding your money.

A member who gives → The person receiving

Paid directly, person to person, from the giver's own UPI app. Shodkk is not in that line.

1. You promise an amount on the website or in the app — one time or every month. Nothing is paid yet.

2. When a student is selected, Shodkk matches your promise to them, and you say yes.

3. You pay the student directly over UPI, and the student confirms it arrived.

Shodkk never receives or holds your money. Neither does any organiser.

What Shodkk never does

There is no payment processing in the app, and no in-app purchase. The app is free.

What Shodkk does do

A scholarship, start to finish

  1. Any member starts a scholarship and says what it is for.
  2. Students apply in the app, and students are selected.
  3. Shodkk matches each selected student to members who promised — for example ₹3,000 from one and ₹2,000 from another.
  4. Each donor pays the student directly — to the student's own UPI ID, not ours and not the organiser's.
  5. The student confirms each payment arrived. The ledger records it.

At no point does the money pass through Shodkk. We are the introduction and the receipt, nothing else.

Is this a charity?

Shodkk is a mutual-help network for one Samaj — the Mali Samaj. A Kosh is members helping named members: a student's fees, a hospital bill, a family emergency. It is not a general public appeal, and contributions are not tax-deductible. The app says so wherever money is mentioned.

On iPhone

Promises are person-to-person gifts: every rupee goes from the donor straight to the student. On iPhone, start and manage your promise on the Shodkk website. Once the student confirms your money arrived, your certificate is on the website under My promises, and the completed gift and certificate also appear in the app under the same Kosh account.
